The trade-off is response time and viewing angles. VA panels are generally slower than IPS or TN and can show visible ghosting in fast-moving dark scenes specifically, and colors shift more noticeably when viewed off-axis.
VA makes the most sense if your gaming leans heavily toward single-player, story-driven, or horror titles where mood and shadow detail matter more than split-second motion clarity.
TN: Built for One Thing, Speed
TN panels hit response times as low as 0.5ms, faster than any IPS or VA equivalent, and they support the highest refresh rates, 360Hz and beyond. If pure speed is the only priority, nothing beats TN.
Everything else about TN is a compromise. Color accuracy is the weakest of the three, and viewing angles are the worst, colors visibly shift even from small angle changes. It’s a panel built entirely around one variable.
TN makes sense specifically for competitive esports players chasing the absolute lowest input latency and highest refresh rate, and who don’t mind a noticeably worse picture the rest of the time.
